Mission Statement
To promote and deliver effective family health care to the highest available standard.

The Doctor
DR SUSHILA CLARKSON, MBBS BSc DFFP (female GP)

QUALIFIED LONDON 1987

I graduated from the Royal London Hospital Medical College and did both my postgraduate and G.P. training locally. I have also worked for 2 years as a Clinical Medical Officer in Community Child Health in Blackburn.

The Practice
The Practice operates from Montague Health Centre, which was purpose built in 1968.

Initially started by Dr Clark in 1936, the practice was them passed from him to Dr Higgins and subsequently Dr Rhoda, who prior to retiring partnered with the late Dr Holroyd. After a short period in the care of Locum doctors, I undertook the role of your new GP and renamed the Practice as The Family Practice in April 1999.

I aim to deliver traditional family medicine, whilst continuing to enhance the level of service provided to you the Patient.

The New Contract introduced on 1/4/04 has resulted in a review of service provision. This formalises regular updates and training for all the Primary Health Care Team all of which contributes to the constantly improved standard of Health Care that I provide. On occasion and as a direct result of this, the surgery will be closed from 1pm with cover for medical emergencies being provided by the Blackburn GP Co-operative out of hours service. Advanced warning of such events is posted on the Reception notice board. In addition, appointment availability is scrutinised regularly to ensure an appointment is available with a Nurse or Doctor within 48 hours or for advanced bookings. Unfortunately, this may not always be possible with a specific person as certain individuals get booked up earlier than others.

Montague Health Centre has facilities and access for disabled patients, but limited car parking within the car park and surrounding streets. There are discussions about re-building Montague Health Centre but I cannot say when this will come about.

Surgeries and treatment room are at ground floor level. Other rooms at the Health Centre facilitate Dental, Chiropody, Audiology, Orthoptic, Speech Therapists, Community Child Health, Counsellors, Community Psychiatric Nurses and the Community Drug Team.
